On Friday 5th June, Jon Tait, GB Lions flag football head coach and assistant head teacher at Woodham Community Technology College, will stage an introduction to teaching American Football in schools course for seventeen Durham University PGCE trainee PE teachers.

This is the second successive year that Jon has run this course and which will allow these trainee teachers to teach Flag American Football in their new posts as PE teachers in September as part of the growing number of extra curricular sports that schools offer.

Jon said, "I firmly believe that one of the best ways to develop the sport from the grass roots upwards is to get kids playing in school. Flag football teaches good fundamentals of the game and allows young people have fun whilst learning.' He continued, 'You never know, the first top level British player to enter the NFL in years to come may be throwing a football around with friends in school lunchtime right now!"

The course will be held at Woodham Community Technology College, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham between 9.30am and 3.00pm. For more information on the course or other opportunities for teachers, please contact Jon Tait at Woodham Community Technology College on 01325 300328 or email him at j.tait@woodham.org.uk.
