Blue Presenter Joel Defries joins London Olympians

The new addition to the Blue Peter Presenters team, Joel Defries recently undertook trials to join the nine times BAFL (British American Football League) National Champions, London Olympians.

The trials, undertaken by BAFL Performance Director, Simon Newnham, and GB Lions Coach, Steve McCusker were performed at the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster on the morning of the BAFL National Championships, BritBowl XXII.

Joel undertook trials a player would ordinarily take to measure his athletic ability and deduce the positions he is most likely to suit. Joel was then introduced to London Olympians Head Coach, Warren Smart who ran Joel through a few drills.

Joel has attended Olympians training sessions, culminating with him joining the squad for the recent game against BUAF team, Portsmouth Destroyers.

Speaking on his performance, Warren commented, 'Joel has fitted in nicely with the squad.  He is athletic and has both catching and kicking skills.  We have enjoyed having to him joining practices at Crystal Palace and having him as a part of the team for the Olympians versus Portsmouth'.

The trials, training sessions and game will be filmed by Blue Peter for a documentary that will be broadcast in December of this year.

BAFL Media and Marketing Director, Ken Walters added, 'I would like to take the opportunity to thank Joel and the team at Blue Peter for taking part in our sport. I am confident the feature will continue to support the growth of our sport'.
