The BAFA confirms that the BYAFA formally resigned as a member organisation from the BAFA on March 31, 2008.

The resignation, which comes in light of the recent developments from the BAFL and BYAFA partnership and the Sport England funded project "Amalgamation of Participation Streams" (see WSP project 1.1.6), effectively hands over the 'day-to-day' management of youth football business to the BAFL from April 1, 2023 onwards.

BAFL Chairman, Gary Marshall, commented, "The BYAFA has been a valuable member association of the BAFA for many years and have done an outstanding job delivering the sport of American Football for young persons in Great Britain". Gary concluded, "We would like to thank all those involved, past and present, for all their hard work over the years".

The recent resignation and the impact it will have on the constitution of the National Governing Body was a topic of discussion at a BAFA meeting at the end of April, however, speaking on the future of Youth Football in Great Britain, BAFL Chairman, Glen Schild, commented, "2008 will see 'business as usual' for those involved in the youth football as the BAFL gets to grips with the management of these sport as a whole". On the task ahead, Glen added, "We are currently being confronted by challenges on a day-today basis as we enter this new phase of development. One of which is to modify the constitution of the company (BAFL) to accommodate the new membership - something that we are working very hard on behind the scenes". Speaking on the outgoing Chair of BYAFA and colleagues, Glen concluded, "I would like to take the opportunity to thank them for their many years of hard work in developing the sport for young persons. We look forward with anticipation to carrying the baton towards a successful and sustainable sport for all age groups and disciplines."

In conclusion, BAFA WSP Manager, Ken Walters, commented, "The recent developments are in-line with the findings of the 'Amalgamation of Participation Streams' project and the work being undertaken by the BAFL in their new capacity will see the emergence of 'clubs' offering a service to their local community, rather than individual 'teams' performing in different associations and leagues". Ken added, "In-conjunction with the soon to be published "Club Governance" project, clubs will soon have the advice and guidance to develop their clubs in-line with other work being undertaken to ensure the delivery of a sustainable sport in Great Britain".
