British Youth American Football Association

BYAFA is the governing body of all Junior and Youth tackle Football in the UK and Flag Football from seven to eighteen in England and Wales

Flag football is made up of three age groups, Cadet, Junior and Youth. The age groupings vary from time to time depending on outside factors but the current age groups can always be found on the registration forms available from the BYAFA website.

The 2004 season saw a remarkable growth in Junior tackle Football with eight teams competing in a single National Conference on a tournament basis, complete with play off structure and championship game. Seen very much as a develop tool for players, coaches and match officials alike the game is currently played in a five on five format, but is quite likely to change as the game progresses.

Youth kitted football continues to make strides not only with an increase in player strength, but also more teams on the horizon and a healthy surge in adult assistance. Playing and coaching standards continue to improve.

Because of the age range BYAFA has a strong and committed Child Protection Policy, being the first of the BAFA member organisations to appoint their own Child Protection Officer. Always mindful of the welfare and security of our members we continue to vigorously police and enforce all matters regarding insurance, equipment, medical cover, duty of care and age ranges as outlined by BAFA.
