BAFA is delighted today to confirm the appointment of Russ Hewitt to the role of BUAFL Commissioner.

In accepting the role Hewitt will not only manage the British Universities' competition on a day-to-day basis, but will also be part of the expanded BAFA Board of Directors.

Hewitt has played a prominent role in British football in recent years, both as Head Coach of the Southern Sundevils in the BAFL and the University of Portsmouth Destroyers in the BUAFL, and latterly as Head of Management for the BUAFL.

Commenting on the appointment BAFA Chairman Gary Marshall said "I should like to welcome Russ to the newly created role of BUAFL Commissioner. I know that he will add considerable value to the work BAFA is doing to strengthen and grow the sport and build upon the successes of the BUAFL".

In addressing the impact this appointment will have on the running of the BUAFL with Hewitt taking the reins from Andy Fuller, the newly appointed BAFA Director for Student Football, Marshall added, "As the two [Andy and Russ] have been working as a leadership team since July 2008, we expect this transition to be seamless. Russ has already been heavily involved in all aspects of the League's administration and has a close relationship with many of the coaches and committee members at the member teams".

Speaking on his appointment Hewitt said,  "I look forward to starting. I am eager to continue making a positive contribution to the League and development of University sports".

Andy Fuller welcomed the appointment, "Russ has played an invaluable part in the workings of the League this past season and I know he will be a tremendous asset for and advocate of student sport". Fuller added "Russ and I will now finalise the structure for the League's future management and work with our teams to drive forward university football development".
